Collecting Fujian “Blanc-de-Chine” “Popularity” of a certain field of collecting often comes with publicity. What brought modern public attention to white wares as a group, was as I see it J. Donelly’s book “Blanc-de-Chine”, through which he helped collectors to identify their pieces. What is most discouraging for collectors is problems with dating and attribution. Blanc-de-Chine is a classical ware. In the old books it is described as a “white ware from Dehua in Fujian province”.

However, to better understand the sediment source and dispersal pattern, the existing mineralogical and geochemical data of adjacent river systems, including the Changjiang River CJR and local rivers in Zhejiang, Fujian and Taiwan, need to be systematically reviewed. Therefore, various indicators from published literatures for the provenance discrimination in the mud belt have been summarised in this article.
The results show that high diversity of clay mineral assemblages in fluvial sediments being supplied into the mud belt, e. On heavy mineralogy, the CJR is dominated by dolomite, hornblende, and flaky minerals; and among of them, dolomite is distinctive for the CJR. For geochemical approaches, elemental compositions, combined with strontium and neodymium isotopes, reflect strong provenance control. However, geochemical and mineralogical compositions are found to vary with grain size, and thus extra caution should be taken when using these parameters as provenance indicator to discriminate the marine sediments with variety of grain-size fractions.

Fuzhou is an old port city, Marco Polo visited it. In the 19th century, it exported more tea than any other Chinese port. Today, it is the provincial capital and administrative .
It was the first rainy day of the trip, adding another dimension to a place that continued to enthrall our group. The angry temple statues seemed neglected and dusty—but this added to the authentic, ancient feel of the place. Dragon and lion statues stand guard at the entrance to the main hall. Qing Xu Guan Temple consists of three courtyards and ten halls, or main buildings, which have been continually renovated through the centuries.
Vividly painted life-size statues can be found inside the main hall, where worshippers often leave offerings including, to my amusement, a bottle of rice wine. A Taoist priest told our fortunes using Kau Cim sticks. Judy Koch was the first to reach for hers, and we all followed suit. I hoped that my very promising fortune meant better weather was on the way! At Chinese Taoist and Buddhist temples, incense is used to purify the sacred surroundings.
One special treat is the opera doll collection, crafted by artisans more than years ago. Of late, there has been an attempt to revive the skill.
